Successful Fun Lesson

a)     A successful lesson commences with a series of exercise which focus on the bodies energies helping to stimulate the brain and prepare the student for  a period of sitting.
b)     Revision of the previous weeks words and working through lists of words until 10 new words are found that give the student difficulty.
c)      These words are worked on until the student is familiar with them.
d)      A roll reversal where by the student becomes the tutor and tutor the student is next.  Then rolls are reversed again
e)      The lesson concludes with the student sitting a test on the words.

100% success is more often the norm at the end of each lesson.  Each lesson is filled with fun and laughter as this assists the ability to learn and retain information.

Each lesson is of a hour duration one-on-one and always in the mornings as a child tires and is less likely to retain information and has greater difficulty concentrating later in the day.

Dyslexia is a subject that is well written about from all around the world with information on the Internet, books and DVDs. One of the better books I have read is “Right-brained children in a Let-Brained world” by Jeffrey Freed, M.A.T., and Laurie Parsons.  The method in which they teach are similar to my way of tutoring.

As a backup on the one hour weekly lesson I highly recommend the audio visual books which can be obtained through the Library.  Is often the case on new students the speed is to fast, this is where I supply younger children’s books with a CD.

A dyslexia is a very visual person and words are learnt more often than not in a visual way.  This lead to poor comprehension for the child is decoding and not reading.  By using the audio visual books it reduces the huge amount of energy needed in decoding and allow the eyes to skim and recognise the words while receiving the information through the audio.  It reduces the anxiety of reading and allow the student read material that is appropriate to his or her age level.
